Imtiaz Ali Biography

Imtiaz Ali is a successful Bollywood director of present times who has delivered blockbuster hits like Jab we met and Love Aaj Kal. He has proved himself to be a good script writer, dialogue writer and has acted in a movie ‘Black Friday’ in 2007. He has edited a few films too – His debut movie Socha na tha and Love aaj kal.

As a director his debut movie was ‘Socha na tha’ in 2005 with new actors Ayesha Thakia and Abhay Deol. The movie was moderate success, but it received a loud noise of applause from critics. Before joining Bollywood he has directed a few soap television serials like Kurukshetra and Imtihaan. Jab we met (2007) was a remake of a Korean movie and casted Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor in the leading roles, the time when they were in love with each other. But before its release, they broke their relationship. After a series of flops, this movie helped Kareena Kapoor to take a lead in Bollywood and went on to become the most sought heroine of Bollywood. She won her first Filmfare awards too. The songs of this movie gave a National award to Shreya Ghosal. This movie was nominated in many award functions for all leading awards – Best movie, music, actors, direction, singers etc. Imtiaz Ali won Filmfare awards, International Indian film academy awards and Apsara awards for its dialogue writing and Star dust awards for Best movie. He won screenplay awards at Zee Cine awards too. This movie placed him among the top talented directors list.

Next time, he decided to do experiment with ‘Love ideas’ of new generation and with the movie ‘Love Aaj Kal’, he made us believe that true love does exist. The movie was purely based on new generation and the chemistry between Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone was well received by audience. Though the movie received mixed responses, it was declared a super hit at box office. His next venture was Rock star with Ranbir Kapoor. The movie though received mixed responses from critics, was well received by people, particularly for the amazing performance of Ranbir Kapoor and fresh compositions given by A.R.Rehman.

 It’s to be noted that his movies till now have become musically hit till now. He is a versatile film maker of present times doing direction, dialogue writing as well as script. The script of success movie Cocktail was also written by him. His next movie Highway, starring Randeep Hooda and Alia Bhatt is scheduled to release on December 2013.
