Haranath Biography

Haranath was a Telugu film actor who was a star during the 1960’s. This handsome hero’s full name is Venkata Appala Haranath Raju Buddharaju. This actor was regarded as the romantic icon of Telugu cinema during 1960’s. He has also appeared in a few Tamil and Hindi movies. His distinct style of action was also quite popular in those days. This versatile actor has appeared in about 100 movies and passed away on November 1, 1989, at the age of 53. Seetha Rama Kalyanam is one his memorable roles, where he played Lord Rama and NTR acted as Ravana.

Haranath was born September 2 1936 in Raparthi of Andhra Pradesh. He had three siblings. His schooling was done at Chennai and later he completed graduation from P. R. College, Kakkinada. During his academic years he was active in stage plasy and has won many awards for his performance. He dreamt to become a pilot and was undergoing its training when he was spotted by famous film director Gutta Raminedu for Haranath’s good looks. He offered Haranath the lead hero of his upcoming movie, Rishyasringa. He signed his second movie very soon, Maa inti mahalakshmi, which got released before Rishyasringa.

After that he played noted roles in movies like Abhimanyu, Letha Manasulu, Chitti Chellelu, Seetha Rama Kalyanam, Aada Janma, Maa Inti Devatha, Bhishma, Panadava Vanavasam and Amarasillipi Jakkana which are regarded as classics of Telugu cinema. He was mostly paired with Jamuna Juluri and the pair was popular in the 1960’s. He turned a producer with the movie, Maa inti devatha in 1981. As an actor, Naagu (1984) was his last release. ‘Vacchame nee kosam mecchame’ – a qawaali song from the movie Monagallaku Monagadu pictured on him, S V Ranga rao and actress Krishna kumar was very popular in those days.
