Gugu Gill Biography

Gugu Gill is a noted film actor from Punjabi cinema. He played lead roles in 1990s, and later moved to supporting roles. He has done around 70 movies till now, in a career spanning to more than three decades. He is associated with cinema since early 1980s with a few bit and uncredited roles, and rose to prominence in the 1990s. He belongs to famous Gill family of Punjab, which made number of super hit Punjabi movies such as Putt Jattan De ,Anakh jattan di, Badla jatti da,J att jeona morh, Dil da mamla, Mirza jatt, Vidroh etc. With director Ravinder Ravi, Gill has delivered hits like Anakh Jattan Di, Jatt Jeona Morh and Pratigya.

 

His real name is Kulwinder Singh Gill, and he uses the screen name Gugu Gill for his movies. Hit film - Putt Jattan De (1983) marked his screen debut in a minor role. He was seen in a Dog fight scene. He also appeared in Haryanvi movie, Chhora Haryane Ka. He appeared in Gabhroo Punjab Da, Jatt Te Zameen etc in the 1980s. He is also known for antagonist role he played in Gabhroo Punjab Da, one of his early works. In 1990s he played lead roles opposite many Punjabi heroines like Daljeet Kaur, Upasana Singh, Priti Sapru, Manjeet Kullar and Ravinder Maan.

 

Gill is a resident of Mahni Khera village near Malout city in Muktsar district, Punjab. But his ancestor home belongs to village Ghall Khurd, Moga District. Many of his family members served as serpanchs. He is married and has two sons and grandchildren. In 2013 he was conferred with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the PTC Punjabi film awards.
