Guddi Maruti Biography

Guddi Maruti is a popular actress associated with Bollywood in the 1990s, most noted for playing comedy supporting roles. She also appears in television soaps now. Her father Marutirao Parab was a film actor and director best known for playing comic roles in Hindi films. Her real name is Tahira Parab, and she was rechristened Guddi Maruti by the popular Bollywood filmmaker, Manmohan Desai during the making of his film, Naseeb. Her popular movies include Khiladi, Shola Aur Shabnam, Aashik Aawara, Dulhe Raja and Biwi No. 1. She was seen as a comedian in all these hit Bollywood films. She did a lot of movies with David Dhawan and Govinda.

She was born as Tahira Parab as the daughter of Marutirao Parab, a character artist of Bollywood yesterdays. She was born on 4 April 1959. She started her career at the age of 10 years as a child artist in the film Jaan Haazir Hain. After her father’s death, she continued acting in Bollywood films to give financial support to her family. Due to her obesity, she mostly got comic roles to play, and she excelled in those memorable, yet a few roles on Bollywood screen. At school her friends used to call her ‘Moti’, and she would pick up fights. But when she started getting roles for her physical appearance, she got mentally prepared for it because her weight gave her bread and butter.

Vijay Sadanah's Sau Din Saas Ke gave her big break, particularly through its song, Moti Palle Pai Gayi filmed on Guddi. After that she started getting offers. Since 1980s, she appeared in around 100 movies. Yet she got attention through only a few films like Khiladi, Shola Aur Shabnam, Aashik Aawara etc. In 1995 she teamed up with Vrajesh Hirjee to do a standup comedy show, Sorry Meri Lorry. The show was immensely successful. She was fully active in film scene till 2006, and took a long break of almost 9 years. She returned back to silver screen in 2015 through the movie - Hum Sab Ullu Hain. She is married to a businessman.
