Girish Oak is a Marathi cine and theatre personality, who has also worked in television. He is a well-known name in film circuit and a very influential figure of Marathi entertainment industry. He has been part of many films, plays and TV shows. His daughter, Girija Oak is a popular actress of Marathi cinema and has worked in Bollywood movies like Taare Zameen Par. Quite active in theatre circle, his play 'U Turn' is critically acclaimed and immensely popular too.

Girish Oak was born in Nagpur, Maharashtra and he owns an MBBS degree. But he chose theatre and cinema as his full-time profession, because of his love towards both. Since college days he has been active in theatre and was part of many plays. He also took part in intercollege and state level drama competitions. He also earned fame in television industry, and has acted in many popular TV shows. Girish Oak married twice. Actress Girija Oak is his daughter from first marriage. His second wife’s name is Pallavi Oak and the couple has one daughter.

His acting career started in 1984 with theatre, and he joined films in the 1990s. As a theatre personality, he is best known for his play, U turn, a social drama with a pinch of humour. Other major works include - Kusum Manohar Lele, Kahani Main Twist, Shree tashi Sau, Shadyantra and Love Birds. As an actor, he appeared in more than 40 plays as well as 40+ movies, apart from numerous TV roles. He has tried almost all genres of acting – from serious to comic roles, and from lead to character roles. Prabhakar, Paus mrugacha padato, Paramveer, Bandini, Manachiye Gunti, Duheri, Eka shwasacha aantar, Arre Sansar sansar etc are some of his TV shows.
