George Maryan Biography

George Maryan is a popular comedian associated with Tamil cinema. He is a theater artist too, who forayed into films. Though he plays various kinds of character roles onscreen, he earned fame for playing comic roles. Filmmakers like A. L. Vijay, Sundar C and Priyadarshan frequently offers him good roles in their films. He joined films in 2002, and his breakthrough role happened through Priyadarshan’s national award winning Tamil film, Kanchivaram released in 2008. With director Sundar. C he has been a part of the Kalakalappu franchise and also worked with him in the movie, Aambala. His role as a house servant in A. L. Vijay's Saivam released in 2014, also won him critical acclaim.

George Maryan was born on 23 March 1963 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. His full name is M. A. George Mariyaan. He is shortly called George by his friends and close ones. He began his career as an actor in theatre in 1989, and has been active in the field till 2002. With more than a decade of experience in the field, he moved to movies in 2002. Yet he struggled to get meaty roles in films, and had to satisfy with less significant character roles.

His big break was given by director Priyadarshan in the year 2008, when he casted him in the movie, Kanchivaram starring Prakash Raj in lead role. He played a bumbling police officer in this national award winning movie, and his role was recognized. Since then he earned some of the meaty roles on big screen, and frequently collaborated with A. L. Vijay, Sundar C and many more directors of Tamil cinema. Vijay casted him in movies – Madrasapattinam, Deiva Thirumagal, Saivam etc, the roles for which he is known most.
