G. Ashok Biography

G. Ashok is a film director of south Indian movies, who directs Tamil and Telugu movies. He is also a choreographer and actor of the industry, who later moved to direction field. He received Nandi Award for Best Director for a Children’s Film - Ushodayam. He is best known for his recent flick, Bhaagamathie (2018) starring Anushka Shetty and Unni Mukundan. He made his directorial debut in the year 2010 with Telugu film, Aakasa Ramanna starring Allari Naresh and Meera Jasmine. Pilla Zamindar starring Nani & Haripriya, Sukumarudu starring Aadi & Nisha Agarwal and Chitrangada starring Anjali are his other projects.

Ashok was born in Ongole, Andhra Pradesh. He is a trained classical dancer, who has learnt 13 different forms of Indian classical dance. He started his film career as a child artist. He started his film journey at the age of 6 as a child actor, when T Krishna gave him the first break through Repati Pourulu. After that he worked in around 15 films as a child artist. His second entry to films was as an assistant choreographer in 1997, and later moved to independent work. As a choreographer, in a career spanning to two decades, he completed over 300 film songs predominantly in Telugu. He has also worked under leading choreographers of Telugu cinema.

In 2011, he started his new innings as a film director, and succeeded in this field as well. As of now, he has directed 5 films in past 8 years. Pilla Zamindar – his second release was his first box office hit. While at Chennai, he shared room with Tamil director Bala. In those days, he learnt a lot of new things from the National award winning director. He has also done one documentary called ‘Nava Jeevan – a new life’ on street children.
