E. A. Rajendran Biography

Rajendran is a Malayalam film actor known for character roles. He is married to cine artist, Sandhya Rajendran who is associated with cinema and theater. He is the son-in-law of famous theatre personality – O. Madhavan and his wife Vijayakumari, who is also an actress. Famous Malayalam film actor Mukesh is his brother-in-law. Sandhya and Rajendran have one son - Divyadarshan who has also debut into Malayalam film industry and has appeared in a few films since 2012. He is also associated with the theatre company started by his grandfather, now into film production business.

Rajendran was born and brought up in Thrissur. His father was associated with paramilitary of British before independence and has led a gulf life later. He was also a social activist. His mother Sumatha is a school teacher and the school was owned by his uncles. Rajendran had 4 siblings of whom two are not alive. Rajendran started going school at the age of 2 aside his mother, who worked as a school teacher there. ‘Sahitya Samajams’ were weekly organized in the school and that’s how young Rajendran got associated with cultural events, plays and acting.

He completed graduation from Natika S. N. College, Thrissur. He was associated with stage plays then and won best actor awards as well. He had a distant relative Dharamaratnam who was an exhibition officer at Lalita Kala Academy, Delhi. He expressed his dream to join National School of Drama before Dharamaratnam. He was only 19 then and just given his final year exams. With the recommendation of Dharamaratnam, he was called for written exams and got selection. He also studied at Film institute of Pune and later appeared in films, plays and television serials. Rajendran has worked with O. Madhavan for long 25 years.
