Druma Mehta Biography

Druma Mehta is a 22-year old young filmmaker associated with Gujarati cinema. She is also a theatre artist, who is a stage actor. She loves doing theatre and being on stage interacting with a live audience. She made a Gujarati short film 'Phor You' that speaks about the journey of a young 8-year old boy and the film tells how his perspective of life changes in just mere few hours. The short film was screened at different film festivals and now she has joined the league of new-age directors.

Druma belongs to the new generation of film makers who have made great changes to Gujarati cinema post 2010. Such leading names include - Haritrushi Purohit of ‘Apne To Dhirubhai’ fame – a comedy with a message, Dhwani Gautam of ‘Romance Complicated’ fame, Vikay K Patel of Canvas fame, Abhishek Jain who gave two blockbusters - Kevi Rite Jaish and Bey Yaar, Tapan Vyas of Paaghadi fame etc. In fact it’s to be noted that this young directors have made their names big with their experimental debut film itself. With Gujarati movie also opting to the urban route, churning stories that youngsters can relate themselves to, such movies have made golden run at Gujarati box office as well.

Druma, best known for her theatric works, has worked with great artists like Rohini Hattangadi. When new age dramas are accepted by young audience, many artists like Druma are coming forward to do theatre. Most recently in her latest Gujarati play, she played the lead role of an amputated girl who later becomes a successful dancer. Rajeev Mehta plays her father's role. With her latest short film, she shot to fame. She gives the credit of its idea to playback singer Parthiv Gohil. Druma roped in children aged five to 13 for the film.
