Divya Padmini Biography

Divya Padmini is a south Indian film actress who predominantly works in Malayalam and Tamil movies. She made her film debut in the year 2006. The movie was Chandranilekkoru Vazhi (Malayalam), directed by Biju Varkey which also starred Jagathy Sreekumar, Nedumudi Venu, Rekha and Charuhasan. Divya used the screen name ‘Divya Viswanath’, for the movie. Apart from several movies, she also appeared in Malayalam and Tamil television serials, mostly of SUN Network.  ‘Sthreedhanam’ – aired on Asianet is her most popular television serials which helped her to bag many awards and nominations including ‘Best Actress’ and ‘Popular Actress’. Currently she is married to art director Rathish and settled in Mumbai.

She was born in Kattappana, Idukki district. She completed graduation from NSS College, Changanacherry. It was during her college days she got associated with entertainment industry. She got opportunity to play the lead character of a telefilm titled Anakha, produced by her newly formed college club. The telefilm was aired on Asianet in 2006 and very soon she bagged her first film role for the non-commercial movie - Chandranilekkoru Vazhi. She was also seen in Indrajith (2007).

In 2011, she made her Tamil debut through - Puli Vesham, directed by P. Vasu. The movie also stared Karthik, R. K. and Sadha. Divya played second lead – ‘Thamarai’ for her Tamil debut. She changed her screen name from Divya Viswanath to Divya Padmini with this movie. ‘Padmini’ is her mother’s maiden name. Ayyan (2011) – was her first Tamil film in a lead role and she was casted opposite Vasan Karthik. Kasethan Kadavulada (2011) and Vilaiyaada Vaa (2012) are her Tamil releases later. She returned to Malayalam cinema with the movie - Husbands in Goa (2012) where she portrayed the role of Rita.

Though Divya has not been successful as a film actress, she is a popular actress on small screen. She shot to fame playing the lead role in Malayalam series - ‘Sthreedhanam’. Manapporutham, Ammathottil, Velankani Mathavu, Tharkappu Kalai Theeratha, Tharkappu Kalai Theeratha and Kayitham are other noted works on small screen.
