Dilip Dhawan Biography

Dilip Dhawan was a talented actor associated with Bollywood in the 1970s and 1980s. Though he stayed in the industry for a long time he couldn’t earn the recognition which he actually deserved. He is best known for playing the lead role in Arvind Desai Ki Ajeeb Dastaan in 1978 and the iconic series of Doordarshan in the 1980s - Nukad, where he essayed the role of Guru. He was also a film producer who co-produced the film, Saath Saath, in 1982. He acted in more than 50 films, in a career spanning to more than three decades. He started his film journey as a child artist in 1968.

Dhawan mostly played supporting roles on Bollywood screen. He also appeared in a few TV shows. He also played less significant roles on silver screen. He was last seen in year 2000 film - Raja Ko Rani Se Pyar Ho Gaya, where he played the role of Rohit Kumar. He passed away the same year. Dilip died at a comparatively young age of 45. He died of heart attack in Mumbai.

Dilip was born in 1955 to film actors, Krishan Dhawan and Munni Dhawan. He started his film career in Dileep Kumar starrer, Sangursh released in 1968. By the mid-1970s he moved to adult roles. As an adult actor he made his film debut in a small role for the movie, Murder at Monkey Hill. It was a diploma film made by Vidhu Vinod Chopra with Anjali and Dilip Dhawan playing brief roles. Vidhu played lead role in the film.

Later he got his first lead role through the film directed by Saeed Mirza -'Arvind Desai ki Ajeeb Dastaan'. He was paired with Anjali Paigankar with whom he appeared in the movie Murder at Monkey Hill. Later he played a few noted roles in Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyon Ata Hai, Ek Baar Kaho, Sazaye Maut, Dak Bangla, Hero Hiralal, Swarg, Saaheb, Izzatdaar, Madhosh, Yash, Heena, Virasat, Hum Saath-Saath Hain: We Stand United etc. He was active in film scene till his death in 2000.
