Dileesh Pothan Biography

Dileesh Pothan is an actor turned director of Malayalam cinema. He has played notable character roles on Malayalam screen in the recent times. In 2016 he made his directorial debut with the comedy film starring Fahadh Faasil, Maheshinte Prathikaaram, based on a real story, and the movie became a huge hit at box office, still running in theaters. The movie marked the successful comeback of Fahadh after a series of unsuccessful films. In the past few years, Malayalam cinema has witnessed some fresh topics and new directors, whose maiden ventures have been well accepted by critics and audience alike, and Pothan in the latest name added to this list. Actually Dileesh is a familiar face to Malayalam audience and he also played a small bit noted comic role of Eldho in his directorial venture.

His real name is Dileesh Philip. He is a native of Kuruppanthara of Kottayam district, Kerala born in the year 1981. His schooling was done in his native town and graduation from Mysore. Since he had keen interest in acting and plays, later he joined Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady where he took Master’s in Theatre Arts. He got associated with Malayalam film industry as a scriptwriter for 12 years before he made his directorial debut with the comedy film - Maheshinte Prathikaaram. Film was produced by noted film director - Aashiq Abu, with whom he has been associated with for movies like 22 Female Kottayam (2012). Fahadh Faasil played lead hero in this film as well.

He also played noted character roles in Aashiq Abu’s films - Salt N' Pepper, 22 Female Kottayam, Rani Padmini etc and has also worked with him as an associate director. He essayed noted character roles in Iyobinte Pusthakam, Da Thadiya etc. In his directorial veture, he played an interesting role of Eldo that makes everyone laugh. Eldo is the American character who comes to Mahesh’s studio to take passport photo.
