Chitra Shenoy Biography

Chitra Shenoy is a south Indian film actress, best known for portraying mother roles. She also appears in television shows, of which her mother role in Malayalam soap drama, Sthreedhanam is very famous. She has acted in more than 600 films, predominantly character roles. She has acted in Malayalam, Tamil, Tulu, Hindi, Telugu and Hindi language films. She is known as the 'young mother' in the Kannada film industry. She has played mother roles to almost all top stars from Kannada film industry, and that’s why she is addressed so. She played Mammootty's mother in Rajamanikyam in 2006.

She was born into a Brahmin family in Hassan to M.K.Vinayak and Saraswathi Vinayak. She has one elder sister. Chitra is married to Gurudas Shenoy, and the couple has one child. Her husband is a Kannada Film & Television Producer. Currently she along with her husband runs two television production companies, and is currently settled in Bangalore with her family.

She started her film journey in Kannada movies in 1990, and later worked in all south Indian language films including Tulu. She has also worked in Bollywood films. Mouna Horata in 1990 was her first film release, followed by Sidukabeda Singari (1993) and Chaitrade Chiguru (1999). By late 1990s, she moved to mother kind of roles at a young age. She predominantly worked in Kannada films, and marked her Malayalam film debut with the blockbuster, Rajamanikyam in 2006. Though her role was brief, it shot her to success and helped her o bag more film and television roles from Malayalam film industry.

She is quite regular with Malayalam television serials too, and became a household name with the show, Streedhanam. Decent Family, Achante Makkal and Gaandhaari are a few more Malayalam TV serials in which she acted. She won Asianet television award for Most popular actress in 2013, 2014 and 2015, completing a hat-trick. She has done TV shows for Kannada, Tamil and Hindi languages too.
