Chakri Toleti Biography

Chakri Toleti is a successful film director associated with Tamil and Telugu cinema. He marked his directorial debut with the Tamil-Telugu bilingual films Unnaipol Oruvan (2009) and Eeenadu (2009), an official remake of Hindi thriller - A Wednesday. It was for the first time two major actors of south Indian cinema – Kamal Hassan and Mohanlal shared screen space for a single film. The film met with critical and commercial success. However his second film – Billa 2, the sequel of blockbuster Billa starring Ajith, couldn’t meet expectations of Ajith fans as well as critics. Except for overseas collections in Malaysia and Singapore, the film was a commercial failure.

 

His real name is Chakravarthi Toleti. He is an Indian-American born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Chakri Toleti started his film career as a child artist of Kamal Hassan’s classic film, Sagara Sangamam directed by K. Viswanath. The movie was released in all south Indian languages. Since then Chakri appeared as a child artist in more than 15 films. He played Mayuri’s brother in the film – Mayuri. He completed his higher education in US. He completed graduation in Film and VFX at the University of Central Florida and joined Tamil film industry as an actor through Kamal Hassan’s Dasavathaaram in 2008.

 

Later he switched on to direction field, and made the remake of Hindi hit thriller – A Wednesday! Both the Tamil and Telugu versions met with box office success. In 2012 he directed his second film Billa 2. Ajith played lead role while Parvathy Omanakuttan, Bruna Abdullah, Vidyut Jamwal and Sudhanshu Pandey played pivot roles in the film. This big budget movie was produced by Sunir Kheterpal of ‘In entertainment’ and he also played a cameo role of a gangster in this film. However the film disappointed Ajith fans.
