Brinda (choreographer) Biography

Brinda is a well-known dance choreographer from South India, who predominantly works in Tamil cinema. She also remained a celebrity judge for reality dance shows for Tamil television. She entered film industry as an assistant Choreographer in the year 1987 for a Bollywood film, Insaf Ki Pukar and worked for a few years. As a choreographer, she made her debut movie Kaakha Kaakha in the year 2003. Her work received unanimous praise, and she stayed in the film industry. Now she is one of the leading choreographers of the country. She has choreographed for film stars like Mohanlal, Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth, Suriya, Jyothika and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Raghuram Master is her brother-in-law.

Brinda was born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Both her sisters, Girija and Kala are also famous choreographers of film industry. This acclaimed and prolific choreographer started working as a background dancer at the age of 13. During her high school days, she regularly participated in Bharathnatyam competitions. She also worked as a background dancer in Vennira Aadai Nirmala’s troupe during her school vacation days. She later began assisting her brother-in-law, Raghuram, in South Indian films and also worked in Bollywood since late 1980s. Phool Aur Kaante, Prem Pratigyaa and Jagruti are among the noted Bollywood films where she worked as an assistant before she moved to south Indian film industry.

She got her break with the Mohanlal-starrer Iruvar (1997), directed by Mani Ratnam. But as a full-fledged choreographer, she began her career only in 2003 with the movie Kaakha Kaakha. PK (2014), OK Kanmani (2015), Pad Man (2018), Kaala (2018) etc are some of her noted works in Bollywood and Tamil cinema in the recent times. As of now, she has spent three decades in the industry.
