Binu Sasidharan Biography

Binu Sasidharan is a film maker associated with Malayalam animation movies. ‘Once Upon a Time’ (2013) is the first full-length animated film in Malayalam (100 minutes), which happened to be the debut movie to Binu. The film features fully motion captured versions of veteran actors Salim Kumar and Mala Aravindan and had a theatric release. He has previously worked on an animated version of CID Moosa in 2008, and, a 3D adaptation of Kuttichathan for home video. Yet ‘Once Upon a Time’ is his first experience as a full-length animated film.

 

Binu was born in Desam, Aluva in 1976. After completing his post-graduation in 1999, Binu started his career as a freelance designer and animator. He briefly worked as a guest tutor too. In 2004 he joined MNC as Graphic Designer and in 2005 he set up his own animation studio - Wireframe animation. In parallel he worked as a Creative consultant and continued with his experiments on animation works. In a career spanning to about one and a half decade, he has also been associated with short films, television programs and ad works.

 

In 2008 he released his first video – an animated version of Dileep’s Malayalam comedy movie – CID Moosa (2002) which proved to be a best seller. In 2009, he made two documentary films titled ‘Vithugunam Noorugunam’, and ‘Kaineettam’ to promote fruits and vegetables. He made this film for Vegetable and Fruit Promotion Council. In 2011 he released Malayalam’s first animated stereoscopic 3D video film for home theaters named Kuttichathan, followed by Kuttipattalam - a patriotic animated home video for kids in 2012. But his outstanding work is Malayalam’s first animated movie – Once upon in Time released in 2013.
