Bhavani (actress) Biography

Bhavani is a south Indian actress who has appeared in all the four south Indian language films. She was a popular lead star of 1970s who worked with lead actors like Prem Nazir and Jayan, and later moved to supporting roles. She has also done TV shows. She is married to Malayalam producer and music director Reghu Kumar, best known for beautiful songs of Mohanlal starrer, Thalavattam and Hello My Dear Wrong Number. Reghu Kumar passed away in 2014. The couple has two daughters, and are not associated with film industry.

Bhavani was born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu on 9 November 1953. She was one of the most popular heroins of south movies in 70s. She played lead roles in Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil and Telugu movies in the 1970s, before moving to character roles later. As a film actress she is best known for Malayalam horror movie Lisa opposite Prem Nazir, and the movie was a blockbuster. She played the lead role of P. Lakshmi in the movie.

Kannada- movie, Bhootayyana Maga Ayyu (1974) was her debut film, and the movie bagged her best actress award. In fact she shared screen space with her maternal grandmother and mentor Rushyendramani in the film. The movie gave Rushyendramani gave her best supporting actress trophy. From there on, within a time span of 4 years or so, she played lead roles in around 75 films and she ruled the screen.

She also got opportunity to star with all lead heroes of her time. She shared screen space with N. T. Rama Rao, R. Muthuraman, Jaishankar, M. G. Ramachandran Sivaji Ganesan, Chandramohan, Nandamuri Balakrishna, Vishnuvardhan and Rajinikanth. After a small break, she made a comeback through the Malayalam film Thandavam. After that she is most active with TV soaps, predominantly in Tamil.
