Bharathan (Tamil Film Director) Biography

Bharathan is a successful film director and writer associated with Tamil cinema, known for punch dialogues. He has created punch dialogues for many hits of Tamil cinema. He wrote dialogues for the action hit films – Dhill, Dhool, Ghilli, Veeram etc, and has directed three films as well. In 2017 he directed the action film, Bairavaa starring super star Vijay, and the movie tasted success. Earlier he directed Vijay in the movie, Azhagiya Tamil Magan, 10 years ago. But the movie received luke warm responses from public despite getting good reviews.

Bharathan started off his film journey as a dialogue writer of Tamil movies, and he received success in the initial phase of his career itself. Dhill (2001) marked his debut in cinema. It was followed by Dhool (2003) and both these action films starred Vikram in lead roles. After doing soft romantic role in Sethu, his action roles in Dhill and Dhool played a pivot role in Vikram’s career to place him as an action king, and Bharathan’s dialogues too played a magnificent role.

After the success of Vikram’s Dhill and Dhool, Bharathan got associated with Vijay for the first time through Ghilli. Once again the success of this action flick established Bharathan as a leading dialogue writer of punch lines in Tamil cinema. He also wrote the dialogues of Vijay’s Madhurey the same year.

After a brief stint in writing, Bharathan debut as a director through Azhagiya Tamil Magan in 2007. Vijay played the lead role. But the movie was only average, despite getting rave reviews. He continued his career through dialogue writing for the movies, Osthe and Veeram. Osthe was the Tamil remake of Salman Khan starrer Debangg, and Bharathan wrote some punch dialogues for the show.

In 2014, he scripted and directed the thriller, Athithi which launched actor Nikesh Ram. The movie was Ram’s home production, and remake of Malayalam hit, Cocktail. But the movie received luke warm response. In 2017 he came to limelight with one of the most hyped films of the year - Bairavaa starring super star Vijay. Despite getting negative reviews, the movie was a box office hit.
