Ashok Kumar Aggarwal Biography

Ashok Kumar Aggarwal, popularly called Ashok Kumar is a well-established cinematographer of Indian film industry who has worked in both Black and White and Colour movies. He has also directed 6 films and done camera work for about 125 films which include 60 south Indian films too. He is a recipient of National award for the year 1980. He received the award for the Tamil movie - Nenjathai Killathe. He received Kerala State Film Award for Best Cinematograph thrice. He received for multiple films in 1969, followed by Swapnam in 1973 and Taxi driver in 1977. He received Nandi award for Sri Sai Mahima (2000) and Tamil Nadu state award twice for Nenjathai Killathe (1980) and Andru Peytha Mazhaiyil (1988). He is currently admitted in SRM Hospital, Katankalathur, Chennai for health related issues since May 2014.

His accomplished cinematographer is best known for his National award winning Tamil movie, Nenjathai Killathe. Jeans, Uthiri Pookal, Johnny, Vetri Vizha and Nadigan are his best works in Tamil. He also worked for the first Indian 3D film – My dear kuttichattan, which was later dubbed and released in different Indian languages and proved quite successful. Swapnam and Taxi Driver are his other best works for Malayalam cinema, which presented him state award as well. Bawandar and Saccha Pyar are his best works for Bollywood and Backwaters and Mayaa for English. Gali Patalu, Kali and Prema Pachulu are his best works for Telugu.

He has worked with many leading directors of the film industry, including Bharathan and P. Vasu. He has directed 6 movies in his career which include the award winning movies like Andru Peitha Mazhayil (Tamil), Abhi Nandana (Telugu) and Kaamagini(Hindi). He served as jury member of the 43rd National Film Awards.
