Arun Mohan (director) Biography

Arun Mohan is an upcoming film director associated with Tamil Cinema. He is the son of veteran movie director cum character artist, Anu Mohan. Working as an assistant of famous director Gautham Menon, Arun made his first independent directorial venture – the crime drama ‘Sarabham’ in 2014, which received rave reviews from the critics. The movie produced by C. V Kumar starred Naveen Chandra, Salony Luthra and Aadukalam Naren in leading roles. Arun Mohan worked with Gautham Menon for National award winning Vaaranam Ayiram and the breezy Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaya.

 

Arun Mohan was born to veteran Tamil director Anu Mohan. He belongs to Coimbatore,Tamil Nadu, born on July 29,1986. As his father, Arun too stepped into his father’s shoes by assisting Gautham Menon for a few movies. It was his editor friend Leo John Paul who introduced him to the producer of new wave cinema – C. V. Kumar, who liked the movie script. Thus Sarabham happened in 2014. He impressed by Naveen Chandra's work in the Telugu movie Andhala Rakshashi. That’s why he decided to cast Naveen as the hero for his crime thriller. It took a bit time to cast its heroine. Saloni Luthra is a theatre artist from Delhi. ​She is the only female artist of the movie. The movie was shot in 30 days.

 

Nalan Kumarasamy is his favourite director of present times. Mani Ratnam is his all-time favourite. His father never advises him and never watched the movie till the movie was released. His mentor Gautham Menon has advised him to be honest to the genre he is working on.​ The director believes that small budget movies should be wrapped up within a short period and it is the secret of its box office success.
