Anu Menon Biography

Anu Menon is a Bollywood film director and screenwriter of Kerala origin. She marked her directorial debut with London, Paris, New York in 2012 starring Ali Zafar and Aditi Rao Hydari in main lead. The movie opened to mixed reviews. Then she directed English film, Waiting starring Naseeruddin Shah, Suhasini Maniratnam and Kalki Koechlin. The film opened to highly positive reviews, though couldn’t earn big at ticket counters. She has enrolled for a filmmaking course at London Film School before she started her independent journey in filmmaking.

Anu Menon and her husband hail from Kerala. After completing her Engineering degree at BITS Pilani, she started her professional career in ad world. But her love for films and filmmaking prompted her to enroll at London Film School to do a course on filmmaking. She also attended a workshop conducted by NYFA. After completing her filmmaking course, she started off with short films, before she moved to full-fledged films. Ravi Goes To School and Baby are her early short film works, followed by a documentary on a Bengali domestic help.

She marked her directorial debut with the romantic film - London, Paris, New York in 2012. The movie starring Ali Zafar and Aditi Rao Hydari was well received in overseas. However Indian audience didn’t accept the film. In 2014 she became a part of X: Past is Present - an Indian collaborative feature film directed by a team of eleven filmmakers. Rajat Kapoor and Anshuman Jha appeared in lead roles. She directed the segment, "Oysters", with less-known actors, Gabriella Schmidt, Dev Sagoo and    Nabeel Qayyum playing their part. It was one whole story with the eleven directors making sections of it, a unique concept in Indian films.
