Anjali Paigankar Biography

Anjali Paigankar is a talented film actress associated with Bollywood and Marathi cinema. She has been a part of highly acclaimed films, and has worked with great directors and actors in the 1970s and 1980s.  A graduate of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, she did her first few films while doing her diploma course during mid-1970s, and was associated with film industry till mid-1980s. Though she has appeared in only lesser number of films, her roles were noteworthy.  Anjali posed for the nude centre spread in a magazine Debonair, which fully rocked her professional career and Anjali moved away from limelight after that. Debonair is an Indian men's magazine, originally modeled after Playboy.

She made her acting debut with Charandas Chor in 1975, while doing her graduation at FTII. After that she played supporting roles for a few Bollywood films before she got her first heroine role. She worked with Smita Patil and Habib Tanvir for her debut film. Since then she has been a popular choice of film directors of offbeat films. Murder at Monkey Hill was her second release. It was a diploma film made by Vidhu Vinod Chopra with Anjali and Dilip Dhawan playing brief roles. She played supporting roles in Taxi Taxie, Sarvasakshi and Dillagi before she bagged her first lead role. She shared screen space with Smitha Patel for many movies such as Sarvasakshi, Chakra and Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyoon Aata Hai.

She got her first lead role through the film directed by Saeed Mirza -'Arvind Desai ki Ajeeb Dastaan'. She was paired with Dilip Dhawan for the movie. She shared screen space with many graduates from FTII and doyens of acting field including Sriram Lagoo, Rohini Hattangadi, Satish Shah and Om Puri. She mostly appeared in art films and was last seen in Mohan Joshi Hazir Ho!
