Anil Murali Biography

Anil Murali is a Malayalam film and television actor best known for playing antagonist and negative roles onscreen. Indeed a household name among Malayali audience, he is one of the most successful villains on Malayalam screen in the recent times. He also plays positive character roles, though rarely.  He has acted more than 200 films, and has appeared in a few television roles too.

 

Anil Murali hails from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. He is born to Muraleedharan Nair and Sreekumari Amma. He has two siblings and is married to Suma. The couple has two children. He reach Malayalam cinema in the early 1990s and came to prominence with early 2000s, and has portrayed over 200 film roles on Malayalam screen till now.

 

Anil Murali began his acting career playing a positive character in director Vinayan’s film Kanyakumariyil Oru Kavitha in 1993, co-staring Vineeth. He was also seen in national award winning film, Daivathinte Vikrithikal the following year. He appeared in Mammootty starrer Stalin Sivadas in 1999, and a few more less significant roles in the 1990s. In 2002 he played the villain’s role in Valkkannadi, and the movie changed his life forever. Very soon he received offers from film industry to do a few more powerful negative roles and he shot to success in a quick interval of time. Since 2002, Anil Murali became an integral part of Malayalam cinema.

 

He essayed the negative roles of Nenja Hakkim in Ivar (2003), Raghu in Kayam (2010), and Podiyadi Soman in City of God (2011), which cemented his position in Malayalam film industry. His role as Diwakar, an effeminate Malayali settled in Chennai, in the Tamil film 'Six Candles' earned him a lot of fame. Though the movie was not a commercial success, he earned appreciation from critics. The movie marked his Tamil debut.
