Anand (actor) Biography
Anand is a south Indian film actor known for portraying negative and character roles. Started his career
with Tamil movies in the late 1980s, he was quite active in Tamil film industry throughout 1990s. He
shot to fame with Mani Ratnam's Thiruda Thiruda, yet had to settle with bit roles in Tamil industry. So
he moved to Malayalam in the mid 2000s and is quite active here. In the year 2000, he was involved in
drunk driving hit and run case, where a police officer succumbed to his injuries. Anand had to face legal
issues of a murder charge.
Anand entered film world in the late 1980s playing bit roles for Tamil movies. Vanna Kanavugal,
Poonthotta Kaavalkaaran, Sathya, Apoorva Sagodharargal etc. He worked with Kamal Hassan for Sathya
and Apoorva Sagodharargal during the first phase of his career. Anand played one of Kamal's friends in
Sathya. Occasionally he appeared in Telugu movies as well. Thiruda Thiruda in 1993 proved to be his
career breakthrough, after a lot of struggles. The film was directed by Mani Ratnam and scripted by him
and Ram Gopal Varma. He played parallel lead aside Prashanth in this movie. They portrayed the role of
two burglars – Kadhir and Azhagu. Though Prashanth moved ahead after this release, Anand got struck
somewhere.
In the mid 2000s he moved to Malayalam and gained success as a villain. Thommanum Makkalum,
Udayanaanu Tharam, The Tiger and Vargam are some of his powerful negative roles on Malayalam
screen. Yet he did some positive roles like C I Madhavan, the close pal of Prithviraj in Oruvan, directed
by Vinoo Anand. Devimahatymam, Idhayam and Dost are his television works.
