Anamika Khanna Biography

Anamika Khanna is a fashion designer based in Kolkata who is credited as the first Indian designer to launch an international label. Her international label is named Ana-Mika which received nearly 2 million pounds of funding to launch. She, along with Manish Arora was the first Indian to showcase the designs at Paris Fashion Week. She experiments with both traditional Indian styles and modern western outfits. She also includes rich embroidery work in her designs. Khanna is also the Associate Design member of Fashion Design Council of India. She is also known for designing costumes for many leading Bollywood divas like Sonam Kapoor, Soha Ali Khan and Sonakshi Sinha.

She was born in Delhi on 14 October 1977. She launched her international label Ana-Mika in the year 2004. She is the first Indian designer to launch an international brand. In 2005, with the title, ‘The Botanist’, she showcased her spring/summer collection at Wills India Fashion Week. For Paris Fashion Week in 2007, she along with another leading Indian designer, Manish Arora was invited thus becoming the first two Indians to receive this recognition. HDIL India Couture Week 2009 was another noted fashion event of her career when Sonam Kapoor walked the ramp for the first time for her show. Inspired from the drape of Indian dhoti, she used fine cotton, chiffons, satins and georgettes with prime focus on cuts, drapes and comfort, which was well received then.

In 2009, Khanna was the finale designer at Lakme Fashion Week. She also participated in The India Premier London Fashion Week's Autumn/ Winter 2010. Kingfisher Award for the fashion designer of the year in 2004, Audi RITZ Icon Awards 2011, Texcellence Award and Damania Fashion Award are the major awards received by her.
