Akshaye Khanna Biography

Akshaye Khanna – the son of veteran actor of 70’s Vinod Khanna is a famous actor of Bollywood. Though he has not been able to replicate the success of his father, he is popular for his looks and a few memorable movies including Taal, Race, Dil chahta hai, Border, Humraz, Hulchul, Hungama and Deewangee. Though he has acted numerous solo films in his career, majority of his hits are multiple star cast movies. Race, Border, Dil chahta hai, Hulchul, Taal and Deewangee can be included in this list and it’s bit surprising that he has not been successful as a solo hero in Bollywood. None of his solo movies can be added in this list.

Born as the son of yesterday star Vinod Khanna, it was easy for him to land in Bollywood. He started his career through Himalaya putra in 1997. ‘I am a bachelor’ song was quite popular that time. But the movie bombed at the box office. But his second movie in the 50^th Independence year celebration, Border was the biggest hit of the year. Though he did a supporting role, his role as a fearful soldier, who later changes the mind and fights for the nation was well appreciated too. He was nominated for debut actor as well as supporting actor. He won it in the debut category.  But he couldn’t repeat that success in solo hero movies.

In Mohabbat he was paired with elder Maduri Dixit, who has acted several times with his father. Though its music was noticed, the film couldn’t do well at box office. When Malayalam blockbuster ‘Aniyathi pravu’ was remade to Hindi by Priyadarshan, Akshay Khanna did the leading role with Jyothika. Jyothika debut through this movie. Despite of having a wonderful star cast, story and music, the film flopped. Same was the case of his solo movies Kudrat, Lawaris, dehek and Aa ab laut chalein. But he found success with Subhash ghai’s Taal. This success was repeated next time for Dil chahta hai too. Then he slowly began to concentrate on multi-hero movies than solo ones. In Humraz and Race he did the negative role. Now he is experimenting with his roles and not tying himself to type-cast roles. That’s the reason why he is popular among his fans despite of his solo flops.
