Akhilesh Jaiswal Biography

Akhilesh Jaiswal is a highly acclaimed screenwriter and film director associated with Bollywood. He shot to fame after his debut film – Mastram, a fictional biopic of an erotic writer Mastram, which earned him accolades. Earlier he has co-scripted the highly acclaimed and commercially successful movies - Gangs of Wasseypur - Part 1 and Gangs of Wasseypur - Part 2, both released in 2012. He also scripted his debut flick as a director - Mastram (2014). He co-scripted Gangs of Wasseypur aside Zeishan Quadri, Akhilesh, Sachin Ladia and Anurag Kashyap.

Akhilesh Jaiswal was born on 19 March 1986 in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. He came to Mumbai in 2006 to pursue his graduation. Though he joined Mass Media from Lala Lajpat Rai College of Commerce and Economics, after one year, he felt that it’s not his stream. He realized his true passion to be filmmaking and dropped his studies after one year. He started his career by doing ad films. He also worked backstage with some theater groups during this period. His first big break to the industry was to co-script the two parts of Gangs of Wasseypur, directed by Anurag Kashyap.

In the 1990s North Indian Males considered reading 'Mastram' a rite of passage. Though two decades have passed, the mystery of the writer ‘Mastram’ is still unsolved. Like many youngsters of 1990s, Akhilesh too read those erotic writings and he always had a curiosity to know the whereabouts of the writer behind this. When he decided to make a movie on Mastram, he tried to contact the publisher to know about the real person behind those writers. But his attempt became unsuccessful. So he c0-scripted a fictional biopic alongside Gunjan Saxena and made the film in 2014. The film premiered at Mumbai Film Festival in October 2013, and it received rave reviews from critics also.
