Abhijit Kokate Biography

Abhijit Kokate is an ace editor associated with Bollywood film industry. He shot to fame after the super success of the film, Queen in 2014 starring Kangana Ranaut. He edited the film aside Anurag Kashyap who produced the movie as well. Not a Love Story (2011), Department (2012), Titoo MBA (2014) and Ab Tak Chhappan 2 (2015) are other major works. Apart from Bollywood films, he also edits and directs short films also. His short film - The Vanishing Hitchhiker, earned him Best Direction award at the Mahindra XUV 500 Memorable Stories short film contest.

Abhijit Kokate hails from Nagpur. His family members belong to law business. Following other members of his family, Abhijit too pursued his LLB degree from Law College in Nagpur and then went London to do his Masters. Though he has been involved with theatre since school days he never thought seriously about pursuing a career in this field. During his stay at London for his higher studies, he witnessed the impact of Indian Films on foreign audience. Suddenly he could realize how much cinema affects the masses and took decision to pursue this field. The film “Rang De Basanti” also helped him to take this decision.

Though it was not easy for him to convince his family members, he finally succeeded. He joined film editing in an institute in Mumbai where he got good infrastructure and community though the classes were not up to mark. He started watching hundreds of movies and read a lot of books, and slowly learnt the art. At that time he attended an event called “Digital Kranti”, where Ram Gopal Varma was the chief guest. Abhijit approached RGV and to his surprise, he received a positive nod from the director.

After a few days Ram Gopal Varma gave him one clip and asked him to prepare a trailer for the film, Not a Love Story. Abhijit managed to impress RGV with his work and thus bagged his maiden project, Not a Love Story (2011). Since then he is associated with Bollywood.
