Aarthi Ganeshkar Biography

Aarthi Ganeshkar is a noted television host and artist associated with Tamil television. She is married to noted comedian cum character artist, Ganeshkar who is a successful television host too. Together they participated in Kalaignar TV's dance show, Maanada Mayilada, where they won the second prize of 5 lakhs. Their marriage happened soon after. Aarthi is also credited as Harathi. She is associated with Tamil cinema since late 1980s and has portrayed numerous character roles till now. Till now she has done more than 65 movies belonging to Tamil, Hindi and Telugu languages. Sathriyan, Thendral Sadum, Arul, Giri, Kaatullavarai, Kundakka Mandakka, Mayavi, Nejirukkum Varai, Tirupathi, Kusthi , Kuruvi, Malaikottai etc are among her noted performances.

Aarthi was born in Ooty, Tamil Nadu. She started her career as a child artist in 1987 movie, Vanna Kanavugal, followed by En Thangai Kalyani (1988), Thendral Sudum (1989) and Sathriyan (1990). Then she discontinued cinema for a while to complete her studies. She graduated from Meenakshi College for Women, Chennai. Her comeback into acting was through a Tamil serial directed by K. Bhagyaraj where she played a serious role, which she feels not suit her. She returned to movies with mid-2000s doing character roles. Aarthi mostly played overweight characters in Tamil films including many comic ones. She started off with movies Arul, Giri etc in 2004. Since then she regularly appears in movies and now Collywood’s most sought after comedienne.

This actress also has a successful television career. She won the second prize at the reality show, Maanada Mayilada. She was a judge of the comedy reality show - Asathapovathu Yaaru broadcasted on Sun TV. She is the winner of Tamil excellence award ‘Kalaimamani’. The actress doesn’t like sob roles and so she prefers comedy ones that well suit her character and appearance. Perhaps she is the only child actress associated with Tamil cinema, who returned back in adult roles, accepting comedy roles and gained stardom as well.
