Subhaprasanna Bhattacharjee Biography 
Subhaprasanna Bhattacharjee is an Indian artist and painter from Kolkata, West Bengal. He is also a politician. In 2013 he was honoured with Banga Bibhushan by state government in recognitions to his contributions as a painter and artist. He is married to artist Shipra Bhattacharya. He is a former member of 'Calcutta Painters' group. Since 2007 he has been involved with state politics, and shared a good relationship with Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee. He was given a chairperson position in the department in the railway ministry, after creating a new position. He was given the name 'key advisor' to Ms Banerjee by media. But it created many controversies when noticed he was not doing any duty of the department after drawing a big salary.
Subhaprasanna Bhattacharjee is most commonly known as Subhaprasanna. He was born in Kolkata in 1947. He graduated from the Indian College of Arts in 1969. Since then he is fully involved with his artistic works. The political violence of Bengal that existed in the eras of 1960s and 1970s have influenced his works a lot. Golden Flute, The Crows, Vastraharan, Middletone, The Owl, Abode, Cat 3, Illusion, A fairy tale etc are some of his noticed works as a painter. Subhaprasanna's series of paintings, Icons and Illusions is regarded as a creative breakthrough and trendsetter. Apart from India he has conducted exhibitions in US, France, Singapore and many other parts of the world.
With mid-2000s he became less active in art, he witnessed a down period. Later he focused on politics and remained in spotlight. Associated with Trinamool Congress, he was a prominent face to campaign for parivartan which impressed Mamata Banerjee a lot. But the positions given to him by CM invited controversies too. He was also accused of his involvement in Shardha scam. He raised funds in the name of Mamta for his personal purposes to launch a channel. After he was caught Mamta kept distance from this artist.
