Shimul Javeri Kadri Biography 
Shimul Javeri Kadri is an Indian architect based in Mumbai. She established her own architecture firm SJK Architects, which accepts a wide range of projects in construction. Industrial buildings, educational institutions, bungalows and interior design of large spaces are among her top priorities. Lotus Cafe and Dasavatara Hotel in Tirupati are among her major works which won the Prix Versailles’ special prize for an exterior (hotels category) from UNESCO. Award-winning architect Shimul Javeri is currently one of India’s best-known architects.
Kadri was born and brought up in Mumbai where she completed her early education. She studied architecture in Mumbai and went on to do a Master's in Urban Planning at Michigan. She later taught Women's Studies before she moved back to Mumbai. The surrounding aesthetic of America just didn’t work for her and she was drawn to the earthy tones of India. She married architect Rahul Kadri, and the couple has two children. She has been practicing in Mumbai since 1990, and has handled projects based in industry, government, institutional buildings to office interiors and bungalows. Currently SJK Architects has 15 women employees.
Some of the recent works include – a showroom of FabIndia in Mumbai, an export office of the Synergy textile complex and a restaurant called the Thai Me Up for Suneil Shetty. Known to have a distinct sense of style, she also owns uniqueness in her way of life. She never wears make-up and doesn’t colour her hair. Quite interestingly she has never used nail polish in her entire life. She prefers to choose clothing and dressing exactly as one feels it represents who she is. She likes structured fabrics and interesting folds.
