Satish Gupta Biography

Satish Gupta the world famous artist was born in Delhi in the year 1947. Satish Gupta is a diploma holder in Fine Arts from Delhi College of Arts, and then he proceeded to Paris for two year stay in Paris to study on a scholarship. Satish Gupta's work has been exhibited in various countries including India in solo and group shows. Satish Gupta`s work is rather fascinating as he uses the print making process which is otherwise a time consuming process and each of his work takes days to complete.

Some of the art galleries and the countries include where his work was displayed are Gallerie Escape in Paris, Art Today, Delhi, and Bose Pacia Modern, New York. Satish Gupta is a true and versatile artist in various fields of art forms including poetry, writing, painting and sculptor. Satish Gupta is also known for his writing in the field of publications and has some wonderful writing work to his credit. Satish Gupta enjoys his books at his old family home in central Delhi where he was born and still lives with his family members.

Some of his books come under the category of excellent including ‘Vibrations’ a portfolio of charcoal drawings and ‘The Broken Wave’ a book of Haiku poems which is said to be inspired by great Zen philosophy. Gupta is the only artist that was invited as part of the official Beijing Olympic along with other international artists including Sandro Chia, Janis, Mimmo Paladino and Kounellis.

The painting work based on Rajasthani style published in a book titled ‘The eyes of the Thar’ describes the talent of Satish Gupta. Satish Gupta also participated in the International Poetry Festival in Spain in 1995-96. he is a recipient of the Sanskriti Award and not only paintings but he has recently created murals which include a 260 feet high piece at the International airport, New Delhi, India.

Satish Gupta was known as a painter until a couple of years before but now his focus shifted to sculptor, Gupta has now a career in sculpture-making. He admits that while sailing down the Nile River in Egypt and watched the pyramid structures and their vastness his outlook changed. He was impressed by the size and thought all over for different ideas. Now all of his sculpture work is affected by size and he tries to make all of his big the best example is his sculpture of Garuda, which is two-and-a-half tones and is suspended 54 feet high by a cable.
