Rudraprasad Sengupta Biography 
Rudraprasad Sengupta is a noted film and theatre personality associated with Bengali entertainment industry. He is known as an actor, director and cultural critic, who has steered Bengali theatre group Nandikar through the decades. He was one among those theater artists who initiated National Theatre Festival in India in the mid-1980s and still continuing it. He has completed more than five decades in the world of theatre. He is married to noted Bengali stage artist Swatilekha Sengupta, a recipient of Sangeet Natak Akademi Award. Noted film and theater artist Sohini Sengupta is their daughter. Both Swatilekha Sengupta and Sohini Sengupta are associated with Nandikar.
Rudraprasad Sengupta was born in East Bengal in 1935 in British India. Now it is a part of Bangladesh after partition. Anant Sengupta and Usha Prabha Sengupta were his parents. He completed his graduation and PG from Scottish Church College and the started his career as a reader in English at the Brahmananda Keshab Chandra College, Kolkata. He got associated with the theater group Nandikar since its beginning in 1960. When the new troupe was formed by Ajitesh Bandyopadhyay and Asit Bandyopadhyay, he was one among the early artists who joined the troupe.
Associated with Nadikar since early 1960s, he turned a play director by the early 1970s and became the leader of the troupe by late 1970s. He received numerous honours including Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1980. Though fully active with theatre, he has also essayed a few character roles for Bengali films such as Autograph, Little Buddha, City of Joy etc in the recent times. During his early theatre days too, he has acted in films - Padi Pishir Barmi Baksha, Hatey Bazarey, Galpa Holeo Satyi etc.
