Prateeksha Kashi Biography

Prateeksha Kashi is a Kuchipudi dancer from the Bangalore. She is the daughter of the Kuchipudi dancer, Vyjayanthi Kashiand Vijaya Kashi, a television and theatre artist. Kashi has performed in many prestigious dance festivals in India in all major cities, within a short span and has created a niche of her own. She has also delivered many performances overseas and has conducted workshops too. She released a Kuchipudi Dance DVD named "The Magic of Kuchipudi", which aimed to spread the dance form widely. She has also played lead roles in a few serials and telefilms dedicated to dance forms. She is also a recipient of Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar award by Kendra Sangeeth Natak Akademi.

 

Prateeksha Kashi was born in Bangalore, Karnataka into a family of artists. She comes from the family of Dr. Gubbi Veeranna. She got attracted to the dance form at the very young age of three, when she sang and danced the whole of the dance drama, Ambe. She made her stage debut at the age of only 5. It just happened without any formal setup or preparations. While her mother was performing for a live concert, she got into the stage, and started dancing along with her. After that she started serious training in Kuchipudi from her mother. When she was 13, she topped the state in the Kuchipudi dance exams with a distinction. She carried her academics along with this, and completed engineering in computer science with high distinction.

 

Kashi did her Rangapooja on 20 February 2009, and since then she has been recognized as the "Rising Star”. At a very young age, she has made some notable appearances in some leading festivals across India, and has also won many accolades. Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Kochi, Bangalore, Ooty and Thiruvananthapuram are some of the major places in which she has performed. She is to play the female lead role in Priyamanasam, a Sanskrit movie based on Malayalam ancient poet Unnayi Variyar.
