Madhumita Raut Biography 
Madhumita Raut is an Indian classical dancer who performs Odissi dance. She is the daughter of Mayadhar Raut, known for reviving this art form in 1950’s giving it new dimensions. Now she manages and teaches at Jayantika Association's Mayadhar Raut School of Odissi Dance in Delhi. Orissa State Ghungur Samman, Mahila Shakti Samman and Utkal Kanya award for the year 2010, Bharat Nirman Award in 1997 and Odisha Living Legend Award in 2011 are the major awards received by her.
She was born to Mamta Khuntia and Mayadhar Raut in Delhi. She has two brothers. She was brought up in the atmosphere of dance and music where she learnt Odissi from her father. She did schooling from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's School and later studied at Indraprastha College in Delhi from where she took a Master's Degree in English Literature. She also holds a diploma in Performing Arts. She learnt the techniques of this art form, expressions and classical 'shastra' from her father. Mayadhar Raut has guided her throughout her career. She has also done innovations in this art form. Compositions on Hungarian poetry, choreographic compositions on poems of Goethe and fusion dances with Balinese dancer Dia Tantri in Holland are included in her innovations.
She has also performed live for many charity purposes and NGOs to accumulate fund. Netherlands Channel I has made a documentary film on her. She has also appeared in lead role in a Dutch film and has also featured in many documentaries made by foreign channels about Indian culture. "Odissi: What, Why and How: Evolution, Revival and Technique", is her published work. She has also performed live in all major Indian dance festivals as well as abroad.
