Laxmi Meher Biography 
Laxmi Meher is an artist from Orissa popular for her Odisha Pattachitra Paintings. She is also a social activist and national award winner for her contributions towards the field. She is the wife of Kailash Chandra Meher, an artist and social activist from Sonepur, Odisha. For his overall contributions towards the field of Indian art and culture, government of India honoured him with Padma Shri in 2013. He is the nephew of director - actor and National award winner for best actor, Sadhu Meher. The couple has three children, who dedicated their life to forward the family tradition - Prakash Meher, Manisha Meher & Jayanta Meher, and all of them are National award winners too.
Laxmi Meher was born on 6 July 1967 in Tarava, Odisha. The village is a part of Subarnapur District of Odisha. She got married to renowned artist Kailash Chandra Meher at the age of 18, and had three children. The family is best known for their contributions towards Odisha Pattachitra Paintings and promotion of art in rural regions. Laxmi Meher got inclined towards Pattachitra Paintings only after marriage. Her husband belonged to a family of artists, dedicated towards Pattachitra Paintings, and later Laxmi too joined them. She learnt the art from her husband. Later three children too joined the family tradition.
Kailash Chandra Meher, his wife Laxmi Meher, daughter Manisha and his both sons Prakash and Jayanta are also recipients of National awards in different years, for the same field of painting. Laxmi and her daughter won it jointly in the year 2005. Laxmi also received a state award in 1990. The couple started many social organisations for girls and women of rural areas through which they were given training and employment.
