Kapil Mohan Biography 
Kapil Mohan was an Indian entrepreneur and businessman, who was into brewery business. The Creator of the Classic ‘Old Monk’ Rum, Kapil Mohan was honoured him with the fourth highest civilian honour - Padma Shri in 2010. He was a brewer and distiller based in Ghaziabad. He was the chairman and managing director of Mohan Meaki, a large group of companies which started with Asia's first brewery incorporated in 1855 at Kasauli in the Himalayan Mountains. Kapil Mohan was a retired military officer who served as a brigadier. He passed away most recently in 2018 aged 88 or 89.
Kapil Mohan, the chairman and managing director of the first-known brewery in India, was born in 1929/1930. He was born into a business family. He was married to Pushpa Mohan. He served Indian Armed Forces and retired as a brigadier. He received Vishisht Seva Medal for his services towards nation. He got into brewery business after he took retirement from army. Following the death of his elder brother VR Mohan in the early 1970s, he led the Mohan Meakin group of companies.
His company diversified its manufacturing activities into other fields such as breakfast cereals, fruit juices and mineral water. Under his leadership Old Monk became a global brand. His iconic vatted Indian dark rum, launched in 1954 was known for its distinct vanilla flavour. It is blended and aged for a minimum of 7 years, which made it a favourite evening companion for millions cutting across age, class and continents giving it an iconic status and nostalgic feel. Till the mid-2000s, it was the largest-selling liquor brand in the country. Meakin’s, which was once listed on the Calcutta Stock Exchange, has been delisted too.
He served as the chairman and managing director of Narinder Mohan Hospital in Ghaziabad and also the director of several Indian companies. He was a patron of General Mohyal Sabha, the apex body of the Mohyal community. For the last few years he suffered from health issues, and the company was handled by his nephews.
