Geeta Chandran Biography 
Geeta Chandran is a renowned Bharathnatyam artist from Delhi. She is a teacher and choreographer too. Apart from dance forms, she has been associated with movies, theatre, dance-issue journalism, Carnatic music, dance activism and many other branches related to art forms and its promotion. She performed her arangettam in 1974, and has spent more than 4 decades in the industry as an artist. She owns numerous students as well. She has been conferred the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Bharatanatyam in 2016. Government of India honoured her with Padma Shri in 2007, for her contributions to the field of art. She is a recipient of many more awards and honours, and is a renowned artist of present generation.
Geeta Chandran hails from Delhi. She has founded the dance academy, Natya Vriksha, which has travelled extensively across the globe for promotion of Indian classical dance form, Bharatanatyam. Numerous students are being trained from this institute every year. She has performed in India and abroad to raise funds for social causes. As a choreographer she experiments with fusion and contemporary works too. She believes that every artist has the freedom to choose their own creative expression, and that art must change with time. She wants to bridge the gap between the folk and the classical dance forms. She also highlights social issues through dance forms.
Her performance in Bhopal long back earned her a lot of appreciation, when she mounted an hour-long grand spectacle with five classical dance forms. 30 artists performed on a 100-feet stage and the show was applauded by a huge crowd of 4000 people. It remains one of her memorable performances in the recent past.
