Gayathri Govind Biography

Gayathri Govind is a famous classical dancer from Kerala. She is also a TV anchor, a choreographer and actor too. She was the winner of the reality show, Vodafone Thakadimi in 2008. A well-established dancer of present generation, she performs on stage more than 5 classical dance/art forms - Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyattam, Kuchipudi, Ottanthullal, Kathakali, and Kathak. She has also anchored numerous shows in Malayalam TV channels, apart from live telecasts. She won the Golden Women Award 2015 for Entertainment, Media and Comm at Helsinki, Finland. She has been very active in school and college competitions winning many laurels.

 

Gayathri Govind hails from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. She is a s/w professional by profession, yet active through her dance concerts. Since the age of 4, she has been a performer on stage, in India and abroad. She owns her own dance troupe called Silver Streak in the capital city, and has organized and choreographed many shows and programmes in the recent times. She also owns a dance troupe with name, Thakadhimi which functions in Chennai and Thiruvananthapuram. After her IT studies, she briefly worked as Software Engineer in HCL Technologies, Chennai before she settled in Seattle, United States after marriage.

 

As a dancer, she gained attention for the first time after winning Vodafone Thakadimi in 2008 as a teenager. Studied most of the dance forms over the years, she won the competition with ease. She was a student of engineering student of Mar Baselios College of Engineering and Technology when she won this title. For the show, she choreographed the dance steps herself, and received assistance from her father in the selection of costumes and songs. She enjoys her career as a choreographer.
