Ameena Ahmad Ahuja Biography 
Ameena Ahmad Ahuja is an artist best known as a painter and calligrapher. She is also known as an Urdu poet and her verses are inspired from her artistic works. She is the daughter of Nuruddin Ahmed, an Indian lawyer and three-time mayor of Delhi. He was also a recipient of the civilian honour Padma Bhushan, in 1964. Ameena is also a recipient of the fourth highest civilian award, Padma Shri in the year 2009, for her contributions towards Arts. She taught Russian language at Jawaharlal Nehru University. She is a linguist who is proficient in Persian, German, French, Hindi and English as well.
Ameena Ahmad Ahuja was born in Delhi to Nuruddin Ahmed and his British wife. She is married to Vishnu Ahuja, a diplomat and former ambassador to the erstwhile USSR. Ameena studied art from Slade School of Art of the University of London. She is fluent in numerous languages such as Russian, Persian, German, French, Hindi and English, and has taught a few of them at different colleges. She has been a faculty during her younger days till retirement, and has taught poetry at Columbia University, Russian language at Jawaharlal Nehru University, India and remained an Artist-in-residence at the Harvard University too. She has served as the official translator during the visits of Soviet dignitaries to India.
Along with her professional career in teaching field, she has been quite busy with her artistic journey too, exhibiting her works in India and abroad. Calligraphy in Islam is her published book. As a calligraphic artist she believes in the old Sanskrit adage. She draws letters in unique style and moulds calligraphy and poetry into evocative animal and bird forms. She married an Indian diplomat Vishnu Ahuja who served as ambassador to USSR, and in those days she toured many countries aside her husband till his death.
