“Some are born great, some achieve greatness and some have greatness thrust upon them” says Shakespeare. Even very young guys achieve something great and get fame and name and one fine example is Babar Ali of West Bengal. He was the proud receiver of the ‘Youngest Headmaster in the World’ award by BBC at his age of sixteen. What did he do to get such an award at a very young age?

Babar Ali belonged to a very poor family background in Murshidabad. Almost all the young children of his place were employed as child labors and were not able to get a chance to go to school. Ali was one among them but got a chance to go to school. The school was located many kilometers from his place. But he continued his education with full enthusiasm.

He wanted to educate his playmates. He formed a small group of his friends and started teaching them at the backyard of his house. He used to teach them what he was taught by his teachers in the morning hours in his school.

His playmates worked as child labors in the morning hours and learned in the evenings. Soon the number of students increased. It grew to a very big group of nearly 1000 children and so some of his classmates also joined this social service of teaching to manage the big group of kids. Many children started attending his school from nearby villages also, walking many kilometers. With his efforts many children of economically backward families could get education and become literates.

Babar Ali never received any tuition fees for his works. He also did not expect any privileges from the government. But if the school is recognized the pupil will get free rice at the end of the month and so he succeeded in getting recognition from the local authorities. So in the year 2009 he became the youngest headmaster of the world. He also got ‘Real Heroes Award’ from the CNN-IBN news channel in 2009. NDTV presented him with the ‘Indian of the Year’ award. A small spark has led to huge lightning and enlightening. He has set good example for students’ community across the world.
