Vidya Sagar's Contribution To Malayalam Music Industry

Vidya sagar – one among the most sought composers of Malayalam who has given valuable contribution to Malayalam film world in the past 18 years. He is not a Keralite, yet no one can easily pre-assume him to be a non-keralite hearing his melodious music spanning in the period of 18 years. Through this article, let me give a brief note on the melodious Malayalam songs of Vidya Sagar.

Though he has worked for other regional languages of South, he won his first recognition through Malayalam movies. Hearing his beautiful compositions, it’s not at all surprising that he got the state awards for his first project in Malayalam, ‘Azhakiya Ravanan’. Hearing the tunes and lyrics of Vennila Chandanakinnam, it’s very hard to recognize that its music was composer by a non-keralite. That song gives the feeling of fresh mango smell when first rain falls on ground. He started his music career in 19869. But it was through Malayalam that he got appreciation most. Vidya sagar was able to touch the heart strings of Keralites. That’s the reason why Malayalam accepted Vidya Sagar’s composition will full heart. Vidya Sagar brought forward the real talent of singer Sujatha and most of his compositions were sung by Sujatha. Sujatha gave her beautiful voice for Pranayamani thooval, Varamanjalaadiya, Ethrayo Janmai, Karimizhi, Ente Ellaamellam, Dwadeshi, Manju peyyana, Manimuttath, Thathamma penne and many more hit songs of his composition. It was thru Vidya Sagar’s music that Sujatha got opportunity to win State awards twice

Almost every year, his songs will be there as top 5. Apart from Azhakiya ravanan, Vidya Sagar won Kerala state awards for Pranayavarnangal and Devaduthan. He won awards for Meesha Madhavan, Mulla, Neelathamara and Chandranudikkunna dikkil. He has done a lot of movies for Dileep including Chandranudikkunna dikkil, Meesa Madhavan, Mulla, CID Moosa, Kochi Rajavu, Spanish Masala, Pappi Appacha, Chandu pottu, Rasikan, Gramaphone and has given opportunity to Shankar Mahadevan, Udit Narayan and Srinivas to sing for Malayalam heroes. A few other movies that need special mention include Dreams, Chandrolsavam, Dosth, Krishnagudiyil oru pranayakalathu, Oru maravathur kanavu, Niram, rakkili pattu, Satyam Sivam Sundaram and Diamond necklace.

He took a temporary break from Malayalam industry in the middle 2000’s. Yet now he is showing enthusiasm to create magic through Malayalam tunes.
