When the Delhi Daredevils played their seventh match of the Indian Premier League 2013 season, it was the first win they registered for the season. Before that they were facing defeats at the hands of almost all the teams. However, they came back and how. Virender Sehwag and Mahela Jayawardene won the match hands down for DD.

Until this match, the score that Sehwag put up on the board was the highest of the season – 95 runs off just 57 balls. Before that Virat Kohli had scored at a faster rate – 93 runs off 47 balls. This innings from Kohli had come against the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

There was more to the pair of Virender Sehwag and Mahela Jayawardene apart from scoring individual half-centuries. Sehwag and Jayawardene scored 151 runs for the opening wicket playing for the Delhi Daredevils. This was their second 100+ opening stand. They had also put on more than 100 runs for the first wicket earlier.

This way, they became the third pair in IPL history to achieve this feat. Before this, Michael Hussey and Murali Vijay had scored such two century stands for the first wicket while playing for Chennai Super Kings. The other pair was Swapnil Asnodkar and Graeme Smith who were involved in two century scores for Rajasthan Royals.

The knock by Sehwag helped him take his tally past the 2000 run mark in IPL. This way, he has now become the seventh player overall to score more than 2000 runs. It required him to play 70 matches to reach the mark.

The hurricane knock helped Sehwag get his 10th man of the match award. Until this match was over, Sehwag had received the MOM award for the 10th time. the players who are ahead of him are Chris Gayle with 14 awards and Yusuf Pathan with 12.

Sachin Tendulkar scored a half-century in this match. It was his first score of 50 or more in the season. Before this, his highest score was 44 runs off 29 balls. It was Tendulkar’s 14th half-century of his IPL career.

Rohit Sharma has also had a fair season so far. Like Tendulkar, he also scored a half-century. It was a cameo innings from Sharma and the 73 runs that he scored came off just 43 balls. This was his 18th 50 of Indian Premier League.
