Directed by one of the most iconic directors in England, Guy Ritchie; snatch carries his signature hyper kinetic style along with a sharp sense of humor. It manages to engage its viewer right from the beginning with its editing and energetic direction. It is a very complicated story that is underneath this violent comic caper.

It begins with a clever diamond heist by Frankie four fingers played very well by Benicio Del Toro and the rest of the movie is connected to this event and how it affects the fate of different people. The main protagonist is Turkish played by Jason Statham in one of his better performances which includes a very key and witty voiceover narration which also sets the tone of the film. He is a boxing promoter who agrees to fix a match with Brick top, a gangster who organizes boxing matches along with feeding people to pigs. Turkish is in need of a caravan so he sends his sidekick Tommy to a gypsy clearing to buy one. Things don’t go as planned and the boxer fronted by Turkish gets into a coma after a fight with a gypsy bare knuckle boxing champion played by Brad Pitt in one of his best performances. And he is drafted in to fight instead of Turkish’s fighter and once again things don’t go as planned.

The movie introduces a variety of different colorful characters like Cousin Avi who flies all the way from America to England where the story is taking place. Then there is Doug the Head and Bullet tooth Tony who apparently was shot six times in the face but still survived. These are all quirky characters and every one of them is given equal screen time and importance and the story moves along at a fast pace. The second half is the highlight of the film where all the characters and stories get interwoven in a clever display of storytelling. The movie’s background track is absolutely brilliant along with the camerawork which compliments each and every scene perfectly. If you are looking for a funny, intelligent movie which is also extremely entertaining (thanks to its dialogues chiefly) then snatch is perfect for you.
