Ravindra Jadeja has finally silenced his critics and how. The all-rounder has got to the top of the ICC bowlers list as per the latest ODI rankings announced by the ICC. He becomes the first bowler after Anil Kumble, for India, to have achieved this landmark in his career. However, he is not alone at the numero uno position.

Along with him sharing the top spot is another spinner – Sunil Narine from West Indies. Both are placed jointly top at the top. The left arm spinner got a career best points tally of 733 points with Narine.

It should come as a surprise for the Indian fans to see someone like Ravindra Jadeja at the top position, when India has specialist bowlers like R Ashwin, who is one of the senior pros around today. It would be too premature to comment anything on Bhuvaneshwar Kumar as he is still pretty new to the international circuit.

The all-rounder from Saurashtra, Ravindra Jadeja was the pick of the bowlers for India in the recently concluded Champions Trophy that India won. He was the top bowler for the tournament taking 12 wickets at an average of 12.83 in only five matches at 3.75.

In West Indies in the triangular series too, he had an impressive show with the ball. Jokingly tagged as Sir Ravindra Jadeja, he picked eight wickets. In those five matches there, he had an average of 23.62 at a remarkable 4.86.

These couple of performances in England and West Indies proved to be vital in giving him the push to the top. It was expected that he would perform similarly against comparatively weaker opposition like Zimbabwe. However, he could manage only five wickets in as many matches.

As he got only five wickets, the average was naturally going to be high at 34.40. However, he had a very miserly economy rate of under 4 – 3.51 to be exact. That is indeed extraordinary against any opposition at international level.

It has been 17 years since the name of an Indian bowler – Anil Kumble, has figured at the top of the bowling chart, which was way back in 1996. There is certainly reason for “Sir” Ravindra Jadeja to bask in his new found glorious form.
