OmKareshwara Temple In Narmada River

Omkareshwara Temple was located at the Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh. While travelling to visit this temple we come across many agricultural forms and in these forms there is a big statue of Lord Hanuman. It is believed that by making Darshan of Hanuman then only we need to go to Omkareshwara temple. Therefore, our desires get full filled.

There is an Island which is like mountain located at the center of the river Narmada. The mountain is known as Mandhata Mountains. The Omkareshwara temple is located on this hill. The history of this temple is very famous in many epics.

Mandhata’s Meditation:

The ancestor of Lord Rama who belongs to Ikshvaku dynasty has felt the Narmada River around the mountain is in Omkar form.  So he performed meditation over there. Therefore, Lord Siva got satisfied with Mandhata meditation and appeared in front of Mandhata and asked to ask a wish. Then Mandhata asked Lord Siva to settle as Omkareshwara on the mountain and Mamlleswara at the bank of the Narmada River. In the slokas of Jyotirlinga, there is a word ‘Omkara mamlleswaram’. Though both are different, but they both are one in linga. When you make both temples Darshan then only you will have benefit of the sloka. That is the main reason why people visit both the temples. There is a Mandhata ashram also on this mountain. It is said that Mandhata king has built 108 temples at Mandhata ashram.

When we visit Omkareshwar, first we have to take a bath in Narmada River and leave Lamps in the water. Then we have to go to Mamleshwaa Temple. It is believed that the benefits of taking bath in Narmada River will be when we take Darshan of Mamaleswara. After making Darshan of Mamleshwara we need to make darshan of Lord Basavanna who is in sitting position and make holy bath with Narmada water and betel leaves. Here the devotees directly can make holy bath to God and  Nageshwara will be an umbrella to lord Shiva.

Omkareshwara Temple:

After making Darshan of Mamleswara, we need to start for the Mandata Mountain where Omkareswara temple is located. After reaching Mandata Mountain we need to climb 200 steps to reach the Omkareshwara temple. The atmosphere around there will be very pleasant. So you may not feel much pain to climb the steps and we reach the temple.
