New technologies can of course yield good results. Yet those chemical substances affect human beings and quality of soil a lot. Excess usage of fertilizers and pesticides adversely affect eco system and environment. Kerala is famous for coconut trees and Keralites depend on coconut and its bi-products a lot. So, I would like to tell you a few echo friendly methods used for growing coconut trees.

Cheapest form of natural fertilizers is the waste of leaves and plants. So, plant a few legumes near the coconut trees, just 1.8 meter away from trees. They are effective nitrogen fixers and help the natural growth of coconut trees as well. When such plants begin to flower, pluck them and use them as fertilizers for coconut trees. When the plants decay it becomes the best effective natural fertilizers for your coconut trees. Not only that, parts of coconut trees itself can be used as effective minerals for your plants. Coconut leaves, fire wood, coconut husk and other products are simply the best. Coconut trees can split those products to make it effective for them.

Earthworm compost is another cheap and natural fertilizer that can be used for coconut plantation. By using the waste of banana plant and coconut tree, a type of earth worm known as Eudrilus is made and later used as compost for coconut trees. In addition to it, you can use the waste of pine apple and dead leaves also. Grow a few cattle beneath coconut trees. Cattle will feed on weeds that grow beneath the trees and its dung and urine provide good manure to coconut trees too.

There is another traditional method widely followed from centuries. To retain the moisture of soil during summer season, use coconut leaves and husk as a blanket on soil. It not only helps to retain moisture from evaporating, but also helps in catalyzing the functions of micro organisms, thus promoting the growth of roots well.

Using the same land to cultivate more than one crop can help coconut plantation too. In addition to it, you can also experiment with hen and cattle too. Also make use of rain water during monsoon by digging holes and drains so that water will be available in the cultivation land during hot summer too.
