The Indian bridal wear comprises of not only the Indian traditional dresses but also the other matching ornaments worn on the day of the wedding. But the dresses play the important place in the Indian bridal wear and this could be classified as men’s wear and women’s wear. The men’s wears are sherwanis together with turbans and mojaris and stoles that match with the sherwani. The turbans complement the dress in its color and decoration and it makes the groom look like an Indian Maharajah.

The Indian designer clothing for men is also called as Jodhpuri suits. These designer dresses are the obtained both readymade and on order. In Hindu weddings, the western suit is also worn. In some North Indian traditions the face of the groom is veiled with a string of flowers joined together to form a curtain and this is known as sehra. The garland is worn around the neck of the bride and groom during the wedding ceremonies in India. Salwar, kurti and dhoti are also worn by men.

The bride’s clothes are usually a sari or a lehenga and it depends greatly on the culture of the area where they live. Red is the auspicious color of Hindus and Indian Hindu bridal wears are usually in red with gold zari. The dupatta is put on the head and around the neck and these dupattas often contain artistic works of sequins, zaris and zardoshis and add beauty to the beautiful occasion.

The Muslims wear the same and the color of the wedding saris is mainly according to the culture of the region where they are living. In some South Indian families the saris are selected in red or green with contrast color blouse also in red or green, that is red blouse for green sari and vice versa. Chunkudi saris are the traditional wedding saris in some families. In the Christian weddings, the bride usually wears the white color western gown or white color silk sari and the bridegroom would be in the western outfit.

The silk sarees are worn in most of the weddings and so this could be said as one of the important Indian bridal wear. Not only the bride but also the visitors and guests attending the marriage prefer to wear silk sarees. The silk sarees are hefty and gorgeous and may be slightly inconvenient to wear but still Indian women love to have them around their body.

The Indian bridal wear includes the various jewels worn on the wedding day. The ears of women are pierced when they were young girls and rings are worn in them. Even men wear earrings in some families. The necklaces, rings, bangles, bracelets, hip chains, chutti or tikka that is worn on the forehead are all the typical Indian bridal wear. All these embellishments will make the bride stand aloof even in large crowd. Of course marriage is a once in a life time occasion and everyone getting married wants to pay tribute to the cultural heritage that they belong to and so they give undue importance to the Indian bridal wear even though it makes them slightly uncomfortable. There lies the pride of Indian culture.
