Dileep's Fortune Changed After Year 2002

When Dileep joined the industry, his passion was only to become an actor of Malayalam industry. For that he knocked the door of every director and did even small roles without hesitation, whenever he was offered. He took the role of an assistant director and stayed behind the camera with distant dreams that, someday, he will stand before it. During 90’s, he was one among the struggling heroes of Malayalam whose talents were over shaded by megastars of Malayalam like Mammooty, Mohan lal and Suresh Gopi. He was always casted as the younger brother or office assistant of these three, though he had a couple of solo hits in his pockets. The whole film world and Keralites stood against him with protest when he secretly married Manju Warrier – the glowing star of Malayalam industry, on whom Mollywood and its future was fully dependent on. Very soon, when he proclaimed that Manju won’t return back to industry, everyone saw him as the no.1 enemy of Mollywood and even written in magazines that it’s his ego and insecurity feeling that prevent him from allowing his wife to work in the industry.

Things were as usual till 2002. With the birth of his daughter Meenakshi, things took a dramatic change and he became a star overnight. Three movies released that year became mega blockbusters of Malayalam. In many theatres, Meesa Madhavan celebrated 100 and 200 days. Same was the case of his second and third release too. In both those movies – Kunji Koonan and Kalyana Raman, Navya Nair was casted as his heroine while Kavya Madhavan was his lucky heroine in Meesa Madhavan. Kunji Koonam earned him critics’ award for best actor and all these three movies ran houseful in all theatres for days. Thus he was counted among the top 5 actors of Malayalam and as new star rise.

Yet, he tried to experiment with his looks and characters he played. He even worked as a female, trying to bring a fresh look to his career. Now 11 years have passed and he has become super star of Malayalam industry – only super star who has arisen in the past 20 years after Suresh Gopi in 1993, with the movie Commissioner. Before I conclude, let me name significant milestones of his career. Chanthu pott, Marikkundoru kunjaad, Vellaripravinte changaathi, Sound Thoma, Pattanathil Sundaran, Gramaphone, CID Moosa, Kathavasheshan, Runway, Twenty 20, Karyasthan, Calcutta News, Passenger, Arike, Maya mohini and Mazhathullikilukkam and he is grateful to director Kamal, whom he sees as his mentor.
