There has been no looking back for the super duper hit film Chennai Express ever since it was released on the auspicious occasion of Eid. Taking all the sources into account – India earnings and overseas earnings, the film has earned a whopping Rs. 270 crores from all the corners of the world.

Films directed by Rohit Shetty have always attracted a lot of enthusiasm and the Golmaal series is an apt example of the series. Chennai Express was no exception either. The film literally seems to be unstoppable and is breaking every possible record on the way.

The figure of Rs. 270 crores stands as of Monday, August 19. The collections only from India were a staggering 185.73 crores. From the overseas market, Chennai Express collected around Rs. 90 crores in a couple of weeks. Keeping the speed of the earnings in mind, the film has left behind many recent hits to be the fastest to reach the Rs. 100-crore mark.

Some of Salman Khan’s recent films like Dabangg, Dabangg 2, Bodyguard, etc. were some films to have broken in the Rs. 100 crore club. However, with the success of those films and Chennai Express, it looks the Rs. 100-crore mark isn’t a reasonable limit to term the film as successful. There is much more to it than only reaching that magical figure

The film was made with a budget of Rs. 75 crores in which Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone are seen in the lead role. In Pakistan too, the film did great business.

Chennai Express could soon overtake 3 Idiots that stands as the highest grosser till date with Rs. 202 crores. The opening was so strong for the Shah Rukh Khan starrer film that it minted more than Rs. 33 crores on the very first day and about Rs. 68 crores from the first two days – Rs. 67.92 crores to be specific.

The film had got a very strong opening in India with around 3500 screens and 700 screens overseas. Before this Ranbir Kapoor’s Yeh Jawaani Hai Dewaani was the highest grosser of 2013. However, with each passing day the Rohit Shetty directed film is breaking and setting new records. Currently it stands third in the list of all time highest earners.
